Mr. Mario Cerutti

Mr. Mario CERUTTI is delta coordinator for Myanmar and program manager water safety at the Directorate General for Spatial Development and Water Affairs of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. Having obtained a master degree in Physical Geography (1982), he developed the first water management plan of the Province of North Holland. In 1987 he started developing international water policy and became Head of the International Division of the governmental Agency “Rijkswaterstaat”. He represented the Netherlands in international commissions and working groups of UN, Rhine Commission,OSPAR and EU. In 1993 he moved to the Ministry and became responsible for national programs on water quality, sediment pollution, dredging and sand and gravel extraction. Between 2003 and 2010 he was Secretary General of the International Meuse river Commission and implemented the EU Water Framework directive in the international basin. Then he returned to the Ministry to prepare a National Water Agreement and to modernize the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute. From 2013 until mid 2014 he was Resident Twinning Advisor in Zagreb, Croatia for an EU twinning project on the EU Floods Directive.
